The Edge of Sleep is a post-apocalyptic mystery-thriller scripted podcast created and written by Jake Emanuel and Willie Block, starring Mark Fischbach, Cara Santana, Alex Essoe, and Victor Rasuk. It is co-produced by Mark Fischbach and Tess Ryan, in partnership with Wood Elf, a podcast label under QCODE.[1] The first season of The Edge of Sleep ran for a total of 8 episodes from September 24 to November 5, 2019 and is hosted on multiple streaming services as a free title.[2] In 2022, QCODE renewed the podcast for a second season, which is planned to release later that year.[3]
A television adaptation produced by New Regency is currently in post-production. Fischbach reprises his lead role, alongside new cast members Lio Tipton and Eve Harlow.[4] On September 30, 2024, Fischbach announced a release date of October 18 through a video on his YouTube channel.[5] However, the television show released 3 days early on October 15, 2024, with marketing set to begin October 18, 2024.[6]
Premise[]
When a night watchman finishes his shift at work, he is terrified to discover that everyone in the world who went to sleep the previous night has died. Now he and a band of survivors must stay awake and uncover the secret of this global epidemic, before they fall asleep.[2]
Plot[]
The Edge of Sleep likes to base his story in a post-apocalyptic manner, but not how you'd normally think of it. The story is based around a supposed spreading virus that is killing all of the humans that went to sleep last night, and that the cure is to stay awake. To stay awake they will need to take pills in order to stay awake, but what they'll learn quickly, is that there is a deeper truth hidden in the depths of this virus. As the pieces of the puzzle connect more and more, the harder everything will get, due to more tiredness.
