The series sees mainly a group of soldiers and civilians fighting against the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company which developed the T-virus for their secret biological weapons program. The mutagen can transform any living thing into a monstrous entity with varied abilities.
Gameplay[]
The majority of Resident Evil's gameplay is centered around gunplay, solving puzzles and inventory management. Completing side objectives, clearing out areas and unlocking new shortcuts allows for the player to better control their environment. Enemies come in many forms with a variety of abilities, and often without a visible health indicator in order to create a tense atmosphere. Ammunition is scarce, forcing the player to make their shots count and to cautiously approach each situation. The games also feature a number of boss battles spliced throughout the main story, with the final one usually utilizing all of the game's mechanics.
Early games in the series featured tank controls and fixed camera angles, with later installments adding more action-oriented mechanics, over the shoulder and third-person perspectives. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which is seen entirely from the first-person perspective, has been compered to its contemporaries, such as Outlast and Slender: The Eight Pages.
