Next Door is an atmospheric pixel horror video game played by Markiplier that was inspired by Junji Ito's Mimi's Ghost Stories.

A young girl confronts her arrogant upstairs neighbor about his loud music preventing her from studying. As the two bicker in the hallway, a mysterious woman clad in all black catches the protagonist's eye as she walks out of her next door apartment. Later that evening, the young girl goes out of her apartment to get a drink from a vending machine, when she notices the obnoxious neighbor from earlier crouching behind a nearby staircase. The visibly frightened neighbor warns her about the woman in black, noting that her behavior is oddly suspicious, particularly how she manages to never make a sound despite living in an apartment supposedly filled with other women of varying sizes. Going back to her room, the young girl hears a scream coming from upstairs. On her way to the upstairs apartment, she encounters a cat that appears seemingly out of nowhere, but she simply brushes it off.
Entering the upstairs apartment, she notices a peephole in the wall peering into the woman in black's home. Taking a peek inside, she notices the woman unscrewing bolts out of her extremities to extend her limbs, revealing that all the supposed women of varying sizes and figures were the same person. After noticing the young girl, the woman extends her arm through the peephole, but fails to get ahold of the girl. A few minutes later, the woman in black circles around the complex and crawls through the apartment's nearby window using her extended limbs, before lunging herself at the young girl, as the screen cuts to black.
A closing sequence reveals that the young girl managed to escape her encounter and is now looking to move far away from the apartment complex as fast as possible.
