Prominent characters[]
Darkiplier[]
- Main article: Darkiplier
Darkiplier was originally an umbrella-term used by Mark's fans for his experimental live-action horror videos, before being repurposed by Mark for his future projects, become a more notable character in his with Markiplier series and its related media. Darkiplier was originally depicted as being a darker version of Mark who held a much more sinister persona, hence the namesake, displaying behavior that highly contrasted to Mark's more upbeat and happy personality. He would often break the flow of Mark's YouTube videos by constantly interrupting them or directly addressing the viewer in an ominous tone while shrouded in darkness.
In with Markiplier series, Darkiplier is an entity made by the fusion of several entities; Damien, Celine, and the evil entity that inhabits the Markiplier Manor. Damien was the twin brother of Celine, and a childhood friend of Mark and Wilford Warfstache (who is referred to as the Colonel). Following Mark's death in Who Killed Markiplier?, his body is taken over and his blue soul is left in upside-down along with the red soul of Celine whose body was taken over by one of the evil entities within the Manor. They later encounter the soul of the District Attorney who was shot by Warfstache. With the manipulation of the evil manor entity, the three of them manage to convince the District Attorney to let the two of them enter his body in an attempt to mend their own. The amalgamation of Damien's and Celine's soul, the entity, and the body of the District Attorney creates an unstable, malevolent being known as Darkiplier. After witnessing Warfstache's mental breakdown, Darkiplier gains control of the body, ejecting the District Attorney's soul, leaving him stranded within the manor. After the events of "DAMIEN", Damien gains full control of the Darkiplier persona while Celine remains dormant.
Wilford Warfstache[]
- Main article: Wilford Warfstache
Wilford Warfstache, commonly referred to by his mononym Warfstache, is one of Mark's most prominent characters whose appearance was used for his channel imagery. Characterized by his pink flowing mustache, deep voice, and world-bending shenanigans, Warfstache became somewhat of an icon of Mark's channel shortly after his first appearance in "The Fall of Slender Man".
Warfstache would be further developed as a character within with Markiplier series and its associated media. Once known as William J. Barnum, Warfstache was a childhood friend of Damien and Mark. After witnessing the District Attorney come back to life via the possession of Damien, Celine, and another entity within the Manor, coupled with his slowly deteriorating sanity due to the constant exposure to the upside-down, Warfstache breaks down and proclaims that death has no consequences and that all of the people he murdered will one day wake up. These events eventually lead Warfstache to become a serial killer.

The viewer later exits the cave with these treasures in hand, achieving the "A Heavenly Adventure" ending.

- Mark-Bot - Based on 5-Second Films' comedy short "Bentley the Break Room Robot", Mark-Bot is simply a robotized version of Mark, speaking in the typical monotone/tri-tone, repeating words and using hand gestures often associated with the robot dance. His last appearance was during the April 2013 charity livestream event for Alzheimer's research, after Wade Barnes mentioned Mark-Bot, to which Mark responded by pretending that Wade's words had resurrected him long enough to show his gratitude to Wade for bringing him back.
- Santa Claus - Mark's interpretation of Santa Claus is significantly different from the usual portrayal of a good-spirited jolly old man, bearing a more disturbing personality, behaving more harshly towards his elves, and being a heavy drinker of eggnog. Santa Claus is prominently featured in Mark's Happy Wheels Highlights series. In "Santa Does Omegle", Mark uses his Santa Claus persona to talk to people via video call.
- Silver Shephard - A character from Cyndago's sketch comedy "Super Infidelity".
- The Ham-Fisted Avenger - The character is only seen throughout November 2012 Slaps-Giving livestreams. After meeting Yancy, a set of interactive events will occur resulting in the Viewer either staying in prison with him and receiving a life sentence, refusing his offer to collaborate and escape together from the prison, or accepting his help and escaping with an ancient box, which contains a written note and a universal skeleton key. Yancy later reappears in In Space with Markiplier to tell the Captain, a point-of-view surrogate character for the audience, that he had decided to finally go on a parole and rejoin society. Yancy's persona has garnered popularity within Mark's audience and is generally regarded as the film's fan-favorite character.
Other characters[]
- Lunky - Lunky is Mark's original character serving as a crude facsimile of Lixian. He was created by Mark as a joking replacement for Lixian while he was away on vacation, later becoming a more prominent figure and Lixian's background rival.
- SCP-11325 - Alternatively known as SCP Amy, SCP-11325 is an SCP-inspired character and a running gag on Unus Annus. Initially a one-off character portrayed by Amy Nelson, it was later reimagined as an SCP mockup doll constructed from parts of various props used by Mark Fischbach and Ethan Nestor-Darling throughout their preceding Unus Annus videos and served as a sarcastic substitute for Amy while she was away.
- The Crazed Butt-Stabber - A caricature of the main antagonist from the game Intruder. As the name implies, the figure is a serial killer who murders his victims by stabbing them in their backside with a knife. The idea for the character was carried over from Mark's prior Let's Play of Electronic Super Joy, where the player character seeks revenge for their stolen buttocks.
- Tiny Box Tim - Tiny Box Tim is, as his name suggests, a tiny wooden crate who was first encountered in Mark's Let's Play of an Amnesia custom story A Late Night Drink. To Mark, Tim has some sort of sentience, as he voices what Tim would say.
Impressions[]
- Hershel Greene - Mark adopted a twisted personality slightly based on, but vastly different to the character of Hershel Greene from the post-apocalyptic drama series The Walking Dead. As Hershel, Mark speaks with an exaggerated southern prospector voice whilst swinging his arms side to side and contorting his facial expression to resemble the typical prospector character (with one eye closed and the mouth stretched into a strong half-grin); this behavior strongly contrasts the actual Hershel Greene's more calm, wise and fatherly personality. Hershel's involvement in the group's antics is somewhat mixed, as he appears and reappears at random points in a conversation, even causing other characters (usually Shane) to speak with his voice. This personality originated from an early Let's Play, during a period of time when he was sick. The character of Hershel was also associated with Yamimash during his time on Drunk Minecraft, depicting him as a zombie pirate, speaking with a calmer, but more pirate-like tone of voice, while constantly getting lost and getting into trouble.
- Shane Walsh - Mark takes on an over-exaggerated persona based on the character of Shane Walsh from the post-apocalyptic drama series The Walking Dead, of which Mark was a big fan of. As Shane, Mark often made crude remarks to Rick Grimes (portrayed by Wade Barnes) about his wife Lori (often portrayed by Bob Muyskens) and their relationship with her, as well as different comments about a variety of topics that somehow end up linking back to protecting Lori and Carl (also played by Bob). While speaking with Rick, he often blurs out a series of exaggerated variations of quotes from the show (e.g. "M'ask you sumthin'!" and variations of "You think you love her but you don't!") to try and prove a point. Mark formerly played the role of Rick Grimes, while Wade played Shane. However, due to ongoing confusions resulting from role reversals, they had decided to stick with the characters they switched to.
Other aliases[]
Throughout his career, Mark has utilized a variety of aliases, either to hide his identity on online forums and lobbies, for his own amusement, or simply because his name had been previously taken on a specific service or platform. Occasionally, Mark would also do an improvised roleplay where he would portray the namesake alias as a character, often giving them an altered voice and character background:

Mark's YouTube Let's Plays also greatly contributed to the series' popularity.
- Jackseptiplier - A mixture of Jacksepticeye and Markiplier used in "DUMB AND DUMBER" and occasionally used by their fans to refer to the two's collaborations. Alternative names include Septiplier. The character phases through walls using the noclip cheat whilst taunting nearby security personnel, to which they respond with a quick shot to the head, effectively terminating him.
