Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first-person survival horror video game played by Markiplier and the first installment in the Amnesia series. It is the first Let's Play Mark ever did on his original channel.[1]
Game information[]
Amnesia is an adventure game played from a first-person perspective. The game retains the physical object interaction used in the Penumbra series, allowing for physics-based puzzles and interactions such as opening doors and fixing machinery. Few in-game objects are operated by toggle; to open a door, for instance, the player must hold down a mouse button and then push (or pull) the mouse. This gives the player stealth, allowing them to peek out a barely-opened door or open it slowly to sneak away, but also adds to the player's sense of helplessness, as it is now entirely possible to attempt to push open a "pull door" whilst danger approaches from behind.
Amnesia: Justine[]
An additional story pack titled Amnesia: Justine was released on April 12, 2011 and is now available as part of the original game.
After the imprisonment of the Suitors, along with three other men as immobile hostages and setting up phonographs with recordings of her own voice to guide herself through her own tests in her Cabinet of Perturbation, Justine makes herself pass out in a locked room by drinking an amnesia mixture composed of Lithium. The game begins when she wakes up and activates a nearby phonograph. She hears her own voice explain the psychiatric tests to herself, including that there will be choices where Justine must kill or save the helpless people she comes across.
Sequel[]
On September 10, 2013, an indirect sequel was released, titled Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. The story, its characters and setting stand alone and hold no relation to Dark Descent, but retain their game's basis.
